At the entrance to University Park at United VIllage stands a beautifully-designed testament to the State of Minnesota, its people, its strength, and their legacy. This is “The Calling”, a 32.5-foot tall, 89-foot wide structure, conceptualized and created by international artist Andy Scott. The design is constructed of over 5,000 stainless steel “feathers” that are carefully composed using a three-dimensional mosaic technique to bring its final form to life. This gift, commissioned by the William and Nadine McGuire Family Foundation and funded with the help of the Minnesota State Arts Council and Snelling Midway Redevelopment, is not only a magnificent work of art, but a celebration of our civic pride for the land we are fortunate enough to call home. And, we hope it will stand as a galvanizing symbol of this community and the North Star state for years to come.
