When will these plates be available?
The plates will be available for purchase starting on October 1, 2024.
Where can I get one?
The plates are available online at drive.mn.gov or in person at Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services locations throughout the state. Plates will be sent directly to the customer via mail, regardless of whether they’re purchased in-person or online.
How much does it cost?
A pair of plates has a standard cost of $15.50. To get a special plate like this, there is an additional $30 annual contribution fee included as well.
Where does the money go?
The proceeds from all plate sales will go directly to the Minnesota Loon Restoration Project. This project is committed to preserving loon breeding habitats, providing artificial nesting platforms in strategic locations, engaging communities in loon conservation activities, and monitoring loons on Minnesota lakes.
Can I get one for my motorcycle?
Yes, there will be a smaller version for motorcycles.
Can I switch from a standard license plate to a special license plate at any time?
Yes, you can!
How long does it take for a special plate to arrive?
It should take about two weeks for you plates to arrive after they’ve been ordered, with additional time required for personalized and disability plates.
