With the weather turning — at last — to spring, we thought it would be a good time to check in on the recent progress on Allianz Field. On April 19 last week, we passed the halfway point in the construction timeline and the physical construction is on pace to pass the halfway point in the next few weeks.
Those who pass by the site regularly will notice that the large yellow crane that was a major part of installing the structural precast has come down with the completion of that work. The steel structure has been installed and detail work has begun, with the only remaining steel work being the canopy that goes over the top, which is about 75% complete. The framing of the supporters section on the stadium’s southern end has begun, including the installation of structural supports.
Soon, the aluminum “seating” for the supporters section — it is, after all, actually a safe-standing space — will be installed beginning on Monday, April 30 with completion of the supporters section slated for the middle of June. Also in the near future, the tubes that go around the building to hold the PTFE screen will be 50% complete by the end of April and the first PTFE panel will be installed in mid-May on the building’s southeast corner. Anyone passing on Snelling Ave or 94 should have an excellent view of it.
May will also bring the installation of some technology in Allianz Field. Speakers will start to go in in the middle of May, as will the video board, and the first ribbon boards on May 7. Installation of the façade lighting, which will go under the PTFE mesh screen and allow for dramatic color changing effects on Allianz Field’s exterior, has also begun.
In short, Allianz Field is going to start looking more or less like it will when it’s finished — at least from the outside — pretty soon.
