Minnesota United FC knows just how important the play of midfielder Emanuel Reynoso is to the team’s success in this 2022 regular season, and that success definitely shined through during Saturday’s 3-0 win over visiting Chicago Fire FC. And, those efforts shone beyond the pitch at Allianz Field, as the Argentine No. 10 had one goal and one assist, resulting in a performance worthy of the MLS Team of the Week.
The honor comes as Minnesota appears to be elevating their regular season form, now having three straight victories. Coach Adrian Heath is no stranger to high-level heroics in Reynoso’s time with MNUFC. “As I’ve said before, he’s an MVP talent,” said Heath. “I feel like he’s just starting to click into that gear that we know he can do.”
Starting ten minutes into the Chicago match, Robin Lod found a split pass to Reynoso who chipped the ball past the 17-year-old Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gaga Slonina, but was found offside. In the 72nd minute, the midfielder came back and put Minnesota on the board with a pass from teammate Bongokuhle Hlongwane, notching one to the right bottom corner of the net, between two Chicago defenders and past the goalkeeper. Twelve minutes later, in the 84th minute, Reynoso took a corner kick that teammate Kervin Arriaga headed past the young goalkeeper, giving the Loons a 2-0 lead and Reynoso an assist. The Argentine now has two goals and three assists in his last four matches.
