MNUFC2 announced today that the club has signed midfielder Roman Torres to a one-year MLS NEXT Pro contract, with a club option for 2026. Additionally, Torres has been loaned out to Birmingham Legion of the USL Championship for the 2025 season. MNUFC2 retains the right to recall Torres at any point throughout the duration of the Loan Agreement.
“During preseason with the first team, we saw Roman’s commitment to grow as a young player and wanted to support his pathway” said MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad. “We’re happy for Roman to sign a professional contract with MNUFC2, and believe the loan to Birmingham Legion will be a positive opportunity to develop at a high level. We wish him the best of luck this season.”
“I am excited and blessed to be able to play the game that I love professionally and I’m excited to get to work,” said midfielder Roman Torres. “I hope to grow and adapt as quickly as possible so I can help the team as much as I can. I want to thank everyone that’s believed in me.”
Roman Torres was Minnesota United’s first-round selection of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft (the 25th-overall pick). Prior to joining the club, the midfielder played collegiately at Creighton University in 2024, making 17 appearances (all starts). In his lone season with the Bluejays, Torres recorded three goals and provided two assists, earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST Third Team for his standout performance. Prior to his time at Creighton, Torres played at Iowa Western Community College during the 2023 season, where he appeared in 12 matches and earned 10 starts.
Torres also played with FC Dallas Premier in his youth, where he was named the 2021 U18 ECNL Player of the Year for the Texas Conference after leading his team to the Conference Championship. The midfielder was notably one of only 44 invitees to participate in the 2024 adidas MLS College Showcase in San Diego.
