MNUFC2 Head Coach Cameron Knowles
On the result versus Rapids 2_…_
“Overall, it was a good performance. We wanted to come out strong in the first half. To go up a couple of goals and then the disappointment obviously letting them back in it. But the guys responded well coming out in the second half and continuing to press and add to the score line. Then guys coming into the game and contributing positively. It was good. It was a good three points for us. A good performance all around especially considering the weather delay and the late start.”
On what led to the great offensive performance scoring a season-high five goals…
“I think when we continue to work hard and be aggressive. When we get guys running forward and we get numbers in the box it’s no surprise there’s chances that are created from it. We were able to capitalize on some moments where they turned the ball over in bad spots. When guys are running forward and a little bit unselfish too on some of those first couple of goals we’re playing the ball, playing that extra pass to make sure it ends up in the back of the net then that’s always a good sign for our group.”
On AZ Jackson’s performance so far this year…
“He’s been great for us. He’s one of the leaders in chance creation in MLS Next Pro. He continues week in and week out to just put in good work and he’s getting the reward for that for continuing to work hard, work hard in training, and go out in games and put the effort in.”
On how the team handled the weather delay…
“It’s a little bit easier when you’re at home. We have the facility that we can use and we have space to spread out. It’s much more difficult when you’re the visiting team and you just have your locker room that you’re sort of stuck in for that time and that uncertainty. But the guys were great. It didn’t really knock them off their focus or anything like that and they were able to come out and start the game the way we wanted to and sort of set the tone for this new field of ours.”
On how to keep the unbeaten streak going with all road games in June…
“It’s difficult. We’ve had some good results on the road recently, so we need to continue that and we need to look at why we’re able to get those results. Guys digging in, guys working hard. And again, the effort we’ve been putting into these games individually and collectively is why we’ve been getting the rewards there for the guys that have been putting in in practice. It sets them up for success in the game, so they’ve just got to continue to work. Whatever the group looks like come those games, the guys that fill in need to do a job for us.”
