Minnesota United celebrates the LGBTQ+ community this June by hosting its sixth annual Pride Game against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. MNUFC was the first professional sports team to sign the Athlete Ally pledge in October of 2014, demonstrating a commitment to equality and inclusiveness – two guiding principles that the club has carried forward with it into Allianz Field and Major League Soccer.
“The values embodied by Pride are reflected in our own core values,” said MNUFC CEO Chris Wright. “As an organization and member of the community, we value respect and we strive to be inclusive. We believe everyone has a place in the world’s game.”
Players will exit the tunnel surrounded by massive rainbow scarves, mirroring a rainbow armband worn by the Minnesota United captain on the pitch. MNUFC players will be sporting a special edition Pride Night Kit detailed by rainbow-colored number decals. LED boards across the stadium will flash multicolor displays throughout the match with a special video presentation ahead of kickoff.
In addition to in-game activations, Minnesota United is launching an all new limited edition Pre-game top alongside Major League Soccer as part of Soccer For All month. This top features a subtle rainbow design and will be worn at home on June 2 and June 29 during the processional and national anthem. The adidas training top is available for retail in a very limited capacity and available for purchase beginning June 2 at the MNUFC Pride Game.
Fans should look for special MNUFC + LGBTQ+ gear and keep an eye on the video board for a special Pride feature that will run prior to kickoff, with members from the LGBTQ+ community integrated into every part of gameday on June 2.
