It might not feel like it quite yet, but the 2020 season is just around the corner and Minnesota United is ready to warm up Allianz Field with a host of activities on Sunday, February 9. The doors open at 9:00 a.m. and the main attractions are the 3rd Annual Surly Boot Soccer tournament from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the launch of the new 2020 kit in the Black & Blue Team Store, including appearances by players and PK throughout the day. The Brew Hall will be open to sate your appetite and there will be coffee, hot chocolate and beer for sale on the Great Lawn.
The Surly Boot Soccer tournament has roots stretching back to Minnesota United’s time in the NASL and a tournament called Snowball 2016. This year, it moves from the Surly Destination Brewery to Allianz Field to be played for the first time on the Great Lawn. Games are 5-on-5 with no keepers and no cleats allowed — strictly snow boots. Thirty-two co-ed teams will vie for the championship with each guaranteed two games.
Boot soccer teams of up to 10 can register online so long as they have a captain, a team name, a team color, all members are 18+ and are co-ed. The cost is $100 per team and each registrant will receive a 10% off coupon to the Black & Blue Team Store and a free Surly beeron the day of the event. The championship team will receive something truly great: a brand new 2020 jersey for each member redeemable in the Black & Blue Team Store on the day of the event, plus a Surly prize pack. The second place team will also receive a Surly prize pack as well as a $20 gift card to the Team Store.
Whether or not you plan on participating, though, come on down to cheer on the teams and get warmed up for another incredible season at Allianz Field.
