At noon on Monday, July 30, Minnesota United opened up the bidding for a charity auction including match-worn and autographed kits and memorabilia from the club’s Pride match against FC Dallas on June 29. Fans can bid on jerseys from Christian Ramirez, Darwin Quintero, Miguel Ibarra, Collen Warner, Brent Kallman, Eric Miller and Bobby Shuttleworth, all signed by the players and bearing the rainbow numbers specially pressed for the match. Also up for auction in a Pride jersey autographed by Collin Martin, who did not play in the game but took the occasion of the match to come out publicly, making him the only active openly gay player in the five major men’s league sports in the United States.
The auction will benefit Avenues for Homeless Youth, a non-profit whose mission is to provide emergency shelter, short-term housing and supportive services for homeless youth in a safe and nurturing environment. Their GLBT Host Home Program specifically seeks to aid at-risk LGBTQ+ homeless youth, a cause that’s important to Martin, who made the choice of which non-profit to benefit with the auction.
Besides jerseys, the auction will feature an autographed rainbow captain’s armband from the match and a team-autographed adidas match ball. The auction runs from Monday, July 30 at noon until Monday, August 6 at noon and fans can sign up and get more information by texting MNUFC to 52182.
