Minnesota United today announced its Countdown to Kickoff, a series of events and activities for fans beginning Sunday, February 9 and leading up to the Loons’ season opener in Portland on Sunday, March 1 and the Home Opener on Sunday, March 15, presented by Star Tribune.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9
MNUFC Housewarming
The doors open at 9:00 a.m. and the main attractions are the 3rd Annual Surly Boot Soccer tournament from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the launch of the new 2020 Kit in the Black & Blue Team Store, including appearances by MNUFC players, broadcasters and PK throughout the day. A portion of the proceeds from purchases of the 2020 jersey in the Black & Blue Team Store during the entire month of February will be donated to the National Loon Center. The Brew Hall will be open, Surly Furious will be on special and the menu will feature items with Cloverdale Bacon. Coffee, hot chocolate and beer will be for sale on the Great Lawn.
The Surly Boot Soccer tournament has roots stretching back to Minnesota United’s time in the NASL and a tournament called Snowball 2016. This year, it moves from the Surly Destination Brewery to Allianz Field to be played for the first time on the Great Lawn. Games are 5-on-5 with no keepers and no cleats allowed — strictly snow boots. Thirty-two co-ed teams will vie for the championship with each guaranteed two games. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the National Loon Center. Check the MNUFC website for more information.

Soccer Night Out, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota
Minnesota United and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota will host a Soccer Night Out clinic at the National Sports Center in Blaine for kids and their families to experience the beautiful game. Attendees can enjoy music by a live DJ, opportunities to win MNUFC merchandise and meet current MNUFC players.
This event is open to public, but the clinic requires pre-registration.

2020 Season Opener MNUFC Watch Party, presented by Summit Brewing Company
Minnesota United kicks off the 2020 season on Sunday, March 1 as the Loons take on Portland Timbers on FOX Sports 1. Stay tuned to MNUFC social channels for the location to celebrate the start of the season at the game’s Official Watch Party, presented by Summit. Throughout the entire season, fans in attendance can cheer the Loons while having the opportunity to win MNUFC swag at various locations across the Twin Cities. Select Summit beer will be available as a Watch Party special.
Additionally, in the six weeks leading up to the Loons’ home opener, fans can expect surprise pop-ups and Black & Blue Team Store pop-ups across the Twin Cities, a Minnesota United presence at various Twin Cities events such as the Winter Beer Dabbler and Minnesota Food and Wine Festival, and more events to be announced.
