MINNESOTA CONNECTIONS

  • Jackson Yueill is a native of Bloomington, Minnesota. 
  • Ike Opara was drafted 3rd overall by San Jose in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. He played three seasons with the Earthquakes. 
  • Minnesota Technical Director Mark Watson has held multiple coaching positions with San Jose. He was an assistant from 2010 to 2013, then took over as interim head coach for the latter part of 2013. Watson was named head coach for the 2014 season. 
  • Shea Salinas and Michael Boxall played for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2011. Salinas was briefly loaned to the Charleston Battery in 2008, where he played with Osvaldo Alonso. 
  • Danny Hoesen and James Musa were on Fulham’s roster in 2012. 
  • Matt Bersano and Hassani Dotson both played college soccer at Oregon State. Bersano and Tyler Miller both played for Seattle Sounders FC 2 in 2016.

  • MNUFC is 3-0-0 in its last three games against San Jose, scoring 11 goals to San Jose’s three.
  • Ike Opara netted his second brace for MNUFC with two goals against the Quakes in their last meeting, a 5-2 win at Earthquakes Stadium on March 7.
  • Osvaldo Alonso and Adrian Heath were named to the Team of the Week for the Round of 16 of the MLS Is Back Tournament for their win over Columbus Crew SC. Hassani Dotson featured on the bench.
  • Alonso was also on the Team of the Week during the MLS Is Back Tournament Group Stage after the Loons’ draw with Real Salt Lake.
  • MNUFC defeated Columbus in a penalty shootout 5-3 after a 1-1 draw in regulation, the first for the club in MLS competition. The Loons last had a penalty shootout against then-USL team FC Cincinnati in the U.S. Open Cup on June 6, 2018. Minnesota won that shootout 3-1.
  • Chase Gasper scored the decisive penalty for MNUFC after Tyler Miller stopped a penalty from Chris Cadden.
  • Jacori Hayes made his MNUFC debut against Columbus Crew SC, coming on in the 64th minute for Hassani Dotson.
  • San Jose advanced to the Quarterfinals by defeating Real Salt Lake 5-2, including four second half goals.
  • The Quakes finished 2019 in 8th place in the Western Conference. They missed the final spot in the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs by four points.
