Opara and Toye Represent MNUFC on the Team of the Week

Opara Toye Team of the Week Week 18

For the second week in a row, multiple Loons have earned spots in the MLS Team of the Week. Ike Opara makes his fourth appearance on the squad and Mason Toye earns the honor for the first time in his career in Week 18.

Opara has now made back-to-back features in the Team of the Week, after providing an assist in the 3-1 win against San Jose Earthquakes last Wednesday. He was an aerial threat for MNUFC last week, making three clearing headers and winning two aerial challenges. The 2016 MLS Defender of the Year is also currently on a two-game point streak.

Toye makes his Team of the Week debut after getting his name on the score sheet in both games during the week. Coming off the bench against San Jose, he made a key tackle to set up Kevin Molino’s dagger goal late in the game to earn an assist. Toye was the hero of Saturday’s game in Montreal, scoring a world-class goal early in the first half and a nearly identical strike in the second to claim a brace and three points for his team. His performance also earned him nominations for MLS Goal of the Week and MLS Player of the Week.
