Teams from Minnesota United’s Development Academy headed east this past weekend to visit academies in Illinois and Ohio. The U13s and U14s visited two teams in Chicago while the U15s played a pair of squads, one from near Cleveland and the other near Columbus.

9:00 a.m. | Chicago Fire Soccer Academy vs. U13 | 0-0
Minnesota United’s U13 team traveled to the Chicagoland area this past weekend to face two teams: Chicago Fire Soccer Academy on Saturday and Campton United SC on Sunday. The early game on Saturday was a tense affair, with both teams duking it out until the final whistle without a goal to show for it.
10:00 a.m. | Internationals vs. U15 | 0-5
The U15s headed east as well, traveling to North Royalton, Ohio, to face their counterparts from Internationals Soccer Academy. Cristian Quinonez opened the scoring for the visitors with a strike in the 26th minute, and MNUFC would push their lead to three before the half with goals coming in the 38th and 40th minute from Daniel Lainsbury and Titus Beckman. The job was finished with a goal from Micah Burton in the 46th minute and one from Ryan Mahabadi to put the exclamation point on a 5-0 in for MNUFC.
11:00 a.m. | Chicago Fire Soccer Academy vs. U14 | 1-0
The U14s’ game against Chicago Fire would end in disappointment following Carlos Nevarez’s goal in the 24th minute for the home side. Despite a valiant effort, the Loons couldn’t battle back to level the score and would leave without a result.
Sunday, May 19
10:00 a.m. | Campton United SC vs. U13 | 0-3
The U13 team saw their fortunes turn in their second game of the weekend against Campton United. Charlie Piller opened the scoring for the visitors with a goal in the 34th minute. Bryan Espadero doubled the lead shortly before the break with a goal in the 39th minute. Then Piller would get his brace with a second in the 55th minute, leading the team to a 3-0 win on the day.
11:00 a.m. | Crew SC Academy vs. U15 | 1-3
Meanwhile in Ohio, the U15s squared off against Crew SC Academy a day after the first team defeated Columbus 1-0 at Allianz Field. Crew SC began on the back foot after conceding an own goal in the game’s very first minute and found it difficult to climb out of the hole. Carlos Leatherman put another in in the 35th minute and Micah Burton followed that up with one of his own in the 50th minute. William Bencic got one back for the home side in the 64th minute but couldn’t spark the comeback, with MNUFC leaving with a 3-1 win.
12:00 p.m. | Campton United SC vs. U14 | 2-0
The U14s suffered their second loss of the weekend against the opposite numbers at Campton United. They fell behind by a goal early when the home side’s Benjamin Zander netted the opener in the eighth minute. Kristian Kwasniak would double the lead in the 27th minute and the Loons would prove unable to muster a response, eventually falling 2-0.
