Minnesota United today announced that rookie defender Wyatt Omsberg has been loaned to Tulsa Roughnecks FC of the United Soccer League (USL).
MLS has entered into a Loan Agreement for Omsberg. This agreement contains a right of recall for MLS, which enables Omsberg to play for Tulsa and MNUFC throughout the duration of the loan period, subject to roster rules and compliance.
“Our goal is to get Wyatt minutes,” said MNUFC Sporting Director Manny Lagos. “He needs to get minutes to get match-fit and match-sharp. Wyatt is a player we believe in and he has a lot of potential and this will be a great chance for him to play at a professional level and get some professional games to continue to develop into the player we believe he can be.”
Omsberg, 22, was selected 15th overall by MNUFC in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from Dartmouth College, where he was a two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and three-time first-team All-Ivy honoree. He has featured in one match for the Loons during the 2018 season, starting and playing a full 90 minutes in a 3-0 defeat at New York Red Bulls on March 24.
Minnesota United’s next home match is on Saturday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. CT against Houston Dynamo. With 14,500 season ticket holders for 2018, MNUFC has started a 2019 waiting list for season tickets at Allianz Field.
