Minnesota United goes gold in September in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and will be hosting a Kick Childhood Cancer Night on Saturday, September 23 as they face FC Dallas at TCF Bank Stadium. MNUFC will be partnering with CureSearch and Be The Match to raise awareness and funds to fight childhood cancer, plus integrate patients and survivors into the month and match day.
MNUFC kicks off the month of awareness with a team hospital visit. The team will be visiting the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's hospital on Tuesday, September 19, from 3-5 p.m. The group will be doing room visits and interacting with patients and their families around the hospital.
Gold is the color for childhood cancer awareness, and fans will be able to spot unique gold assets across TCF Bank Stadium, including gold corner flags, nets, player tees and wristbands, jersey patches, scarves and special gold LED graphics.
Players will exit the tunnel surrounded by patients, survivors and volunteers from the childhood cancer community, all holding massive pitch scarves. MNUFC will also recognize the 43 children diagnosed daily with cancer by honoring 43 survivors and leaders from the childhood cancer community at halftime.
MNUFC will help raise funds by contributing five dollars from each single match ticket purchased for the FC Dallas match to CureSearch and Be The Match. The club will also bring back the popular Love Your Melon beanies, which fans will be able to purchase as part of a hat + ticket package. Fans who can’t attend or are already season ticket holders can purchase a ticket and donate it back to a cancer patient or family from a local hospital.
Fans can stop by the CureSearch or Be The Match tables in-stadium to learn more about these organizations and how to get involved, plus September’s unique Kick Childhood Cancer scarves and T-shirts will be available at merchandise stands throughout the stadium, with proceeds benefiting Children’s Oncology Group.
Fans are encouraged to interact on social media with #KickChildhoodCancer and #ScarvesUp. For each post submitted, MLS will make a donation to a cancer nonprofit.
