It’s like clockwork at this point: another weekend of Major League Soccer means another Loon is in the Team of the Matchday. This week it’s striker Kelvin Yeboah, whose crucial brace against the Galaxy earned his side a point and got him his second TOTM appearance of 2025.
Though the season is still young, Yeboah has already shown the league that his fast start to MLS life was no fluke after his midseason transfer in 2024. His striker’s instinct was on full display for his first strike of the night, firing home a well-saved rebound to put the home side in front. His composure to put his 87th-minute penalty into the bottom right was top-class, sending John McCarthy the wrong way and stealing the lead once more. It was the kind of performance that any forward would be proud of, and it appears to be the kind of performance Loons fans should get used to seeing.
Yeboah is currently joint-third in Major League Soccer’s scoring chart, level with Atlanta’s Emmanuel Latte Lath and Orlando’s Marco Pašalić on four apiece. His 4.3 expected goals tally is second in the league, behind only leading scorer Hugo Cuypers of the Chicago Fire (4.8), once again showing that his early season form is no joke. The Loons sit in sixth place in the Western Conference after five games, just four points behind conference leaders Vancouver. If Yeboah can keep up his scintillating form, they’ll be confident they can keep pace with the best of the west and extend their unbeaten run to five games next weekend against RSL.
