Week 31 of the MLS regular season is in the books, and the Loons were able to get a thrilling, last-second equalizer in the 1-1 draw against New England over the weekend. In light of the Loons strong showing on Saturday night, three of the boys have been included in the Team of the Matchday lineup.Â
Making the starting lineup for the honorary squad was Saturday night’s hero, Franco Fragapane. The attacker was subbed onto the pitch for Mender Garcia in the 61st minute, and was quick to join the Loons aggressive attacking efforts to keep the pressure on New England’s back line. He saw a few close calls go begging, but he found himself in the right place at the right time to boot the ball into the net when it mattered most. He celebrated the moment with the entire Wonderwall, which felt like an appropriate way to celebrate such a thrilling goal in the 93rd minute of play.Â
Not only did Fragapane make the squad, but the man that had the assist on that goal also had his name called. That would be goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, who had made his way down to the opposite side of the field to be part of the very last play and showed poise when the deflected corner kick found its way to him and then off to Franco for the win. Beyond the rare goalkeeper assist, St. Clair was crucial to keeping the Revs from adding to their 1st half goal, making a number of clutch saves to keep the New England attack at bay for the entirety of the second half.Â
Also getting a very deserving nod to the squad was midfielder Hassani Dotson. Those who watched the game can absolutely understand why Dotson is part of the squad, as he was just about everywhere on the pitch, making crucial stops in the defensive third, while also being a key component in the Loons getting the edge in possession during the match. His versatility was definitely a factor in keeping the Loons in the fight against New England and gaining another point in the Western Conference standings.Â
Congratulations fellas! A well-deserved honor for all three of you Loons!
