Minnesota United FC midfielder Sang Bin Jeong has been called up to the Korea Men’s Olympic Football Team for the upcoming 2024 Asian Football Confederation U23 Asian Cup in Qatar. He will join the team following MNUFC’s home game against Houston Dynamo FC on April 13 at Allianz Field.
The sixth edition of the biennial tournament will be held from April 15 to May 3 and will act as the AFC qualifiers for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. A total of 16 Asian Football Confederation teams will participate in the tournament with the top three teams qualifying for the Olympics and the fourth-best team participating in the AFC-CAF playoff qualifying match.
Sang Bin Jeong and company will face Japan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China in Group B. The U23 team will first face UAE on April 16, followed by China on April 19, and lastly Japan on April 22. The top two teams of each group will then advance to the knockout rounds. This will be the sixth time The Tigers of Asia participate in the AFC U23 Asian Cup, winning the tournament in 2020.
Sang Bin has started in all four MNUFC regular season games this season, recording two assists in 305 minutes played.
