Minnesota United is dedicated to community involvement, and the month of June did not stray from that ideal. In working hard to give back to the Twin Cities, MNUFC had many great initiatives this past month, and to celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite moments.
Mental Health Awareness Jersey Auction
From the end of May through the start of June, we auctioned game-worn Mental Health Awareness jerseys and raised $1,363. All benefits went to NAMI Minnesota, a group that focuses on improving the lives of children and families dealing with mental health illnesses.
Mississippi Park Connection – Bell Bank Man of the Match Appearance
On June 6, Fred Emmings and Eric Dick joined their Man of the Match beneficiary – Mississippi Park Connection – to learn more about the environmental preservation of the Mississippi River. Kayaking down the river, Fred and Eric were informed about the many species of life that live on the river banks and right in our backyards!
Big Brothers Big Sisters – Bell Bank Man of the Match Appearance
On June 7, Dayne St. Clair stopped by Big Brothers Big Sisters to meet the kids, play some games, and offer his advice on the importance of being a good neighbor and community member The BBBS program allows doorways for children to find their Bigs, whose job is to instill them with positive life influences such as arts and crafts, communication, and reading, to name a few.
Blue Cross Blue Shield – Kickers FC Clinic
On June 9, MNUFC and Blue Cross Blue Shield partnered with Kickers FC to put on a soccer clinic for their local community. With over 200+ kids in the Brooklyn Park area participating, there was no shortage of smiles and laughter. Drills and stations were assisted by our very own Academy players and coaches.
Pride Jersey Auction
From June 12-18, Outfront Minnesota received $2,658 through the auction of MNUFC’s game-worn Pride jerseys. Outfront utilizes intersectional organizing, advocacy, education, and direct support services to fight for LGBTQ+ justice and equity.
Free Farmers Market
On June 16, Allianz Field hosted their first Free Farmers Market food drive of the year, presented by Allianz. Allianz and Minnesota United provided volunteers, while Keystone Community Services provided food supplies. Keystone is an nonprofit that combats food insecurity and works to help families that struggle to find their next meal.
Juneteenth Celebration at Allianz Field
On June 17, Minnesota United and Allianz Field worked with the Anika Foundation to host St. Paul’s largest Juneteenth event, “Juneteenth: A Family Celebration.” The celebration took place on the Allianz Field Great Lawn, and the vendors, performers, and gathered families all helped to make the day extra special.
The Sanneh Foundation – Bell Bank Man of the Match Appearance
On June 22, DJ Taylor joined The Sanneh Foundation’s soccer program to teach their youth athletes a little about what it takes to become a professional. Taylor participated in drills and training and aimed to embody the foundation’s core values of empowering youth, improving lives, and uniting communities.
TC Pride Parade March
On June 25, TC Pride hosted their annual Pride Parade. MNUFC staff members and supporters joined the party with rainbow-colored giveaways that were distributed throughout the parade march.
