Minnesota United continues its dedication to give back to the Twin Cities community, and August definitely didn’t stray from that ideal. A lot was accomplished this past month, and to help keep you updated on community involvement, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite moments.
Habitat for Humanity – House Build
On August 7, MNUFC staff teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help build a house in St. Paul. Volunteers arrived at the site and got to work creating a home for a family in need. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve housing – they believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong, stable communities.
Special Olympics Minnesota – MNUFC Unified PracticeÂ
On August 9, Unified athletes and partners took to the training pitch to sharpen their skills ahead of upcoming games.
Irish Fair of Minnesota
On August 11-12, MNUFC had a presence at the Irish Fair, with representatives on-site and fun giveaways! The Irish Fair of Minnesota is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating Irish culture and community. Every second weekend of August, they celebrate Irish heritage, with music, dance, family activities and good craic!
Blue Cross Blue Shield – West Bank Athletic Club Clinic
On August 14, West Bank Athletic Club took the field by storm for their soccer clinic. WBAC is a youth development organization that serves Somali youth and young adults from the Cedar Riverside neighborhood – promoting leadership development, teamwork, discipline, responsibility and respect for others, primarily through soccer. Blue Cross Blue Shield provided snacks and fun mini-games, while Minnesota United showed their support and provided a celebratory atmosphere.
Ronald McDonald House – Race for the Kids
On August 19, PK stopped by the RBC Race for the Kids to show support for this important program. The RBC Race for the Kids MN started in 2016, and raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Each year, this race, along with its partners, generates over $50,000 to provide children with a home away from home when they are going through a crisis.
Target & Body Armor – TC SOL Training Visit
On August 22, TC SOL was invited to attend first-team training to see first-hand what goes into being a professional footballer. The kids got to watch the practice session and meet the players before heading inside for pizza and words of encouragement from MNUFC staff members. TC Sol is dedicated to bringing quality soccer programming to all people, regardless of financial status – offering affordable competitive clinics and free community clinics to the Twin Cities.
Keystone & Allianz – Free Farmers Market
On August 25, Allianz Field hosted another Free Farmers Market food drive. Allianz and Minnesota United provided the volunteers, while Keystone Community Services provided the food. Keystone tackles food scarcity for families that struggle to find their next meal.
