All good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, that was the case for your MNUFC2 squad, as they had their eight-game unbeaten streak snapped by San Jose Earthquakes II with a 2-1 loss out on the left coast.
The first half saw a lot of physicality, and with that physical play came a number of fouls called on the Twosies, with Jason Ramos, Justin McMaster and Carlos Leatherman getting fouls called on them within the first twelve minutes of the match. Leatherman was shown a yellow card for his trouble.
Quakes II had a handful of attempts on goal throughout the rest of the first half, and eventually, they turned that offensive momentum into points on the board in the 39th minute. Leatherman conceded a costly foul on Quakes II midfielder Eduardo Blancas in the penalty area. Blancas converted his penalty shot to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
The second half brought even more circumstances for MNUFC2, when in the 69th minute of play, Loons defender Jason Ramos was shown a red card for violent conduct. The end of Ramos’ day presented another obstacle for the Twosies, leaving them with only ten men on the pitch for the rest of the game. Coach Cameron Kn tried to add more firepower to the attack in the of the Ramos’ red card, subbing midfielder Diego Pacheco into the mix. The move proved to be a good one, when Pacheco put a header past the Quakes II keeper one minute into stoppage time, knotting things up 1-1 before the clock ran out on regulation.
Unfortunately for MNUFC2, Quakes II flipped the script on the boys just one minute later when San Jose midfielder Jerry Ayon put one past Loons keeper Fred Emmings, ending any of the potential for any shootout suspense as San Jose escaped with the W.
The MNUFC2 crew will get a few weeks to rest up and wash that bad taste out of their mouths before returning to the pitch to face North Texas SC on June 26th.
