Why score one when you can score two? Tani Oluwaseyi opened his 2025 goal-scoring account this weekend with a brace against Sporting Kansas City, showcasing the kind of positioning and instincts that the gameās best strikers have to possess.
Oluwaseyiās first of the night came in the 31st minute, courtesy of a fantastic, lightning-fast counterattack from him and Bongokuhle Hlongwane. Taniās run to the back post saw him get free of the defenders that were meant to mark him, and Bongiās inch-perfect, curling cross made the finish easy for his striker. Just 15 minutes later, directly after the whistle blew to start the second half, Tani completed his brace, hanging on the shoulder of SKCās last defender and pouncing on JoaquĆn Pereyraās pass across the six-yard box. Two simple finishes, two incredibly well-timed, well-executed buildups.
After three low-scoring games to open the season, questions were beginning to circle about MNUFCās new two-striker system. Oluwaseyi heard the doubters, and in his fourth start of the season, put up a pair of strikerās finishes to put those concerns to bed. While the team ended up settling for a draw, the attacking explosion we saw from the Loons was encouraging, proving that this squad is not only capable of defending but scoring as well. When they put the whole thing together, it could be quite special indeed. Congratulations, Tani; letās keep those shooting boots on against the Galaxy this weekend!
