Minnesota United has signed French forward Adrien Hunou as a Designated Player from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais. Hunou has been signed to a three-year contract plus a one year club option. He will join the Loons pending a physical, receipt of his P1 Visa and ITC and completion of league-mandated quarantine. Additionally, Hunou will occupy an international spot on Minnesota’s roster. Hunou has been signed to a three-year contract plus a one year club option.
“This is another signing we have pursued for a long time. Adrien is a target we have not deviated from since last year. It’s a bit like the Reynoso deal, where we’ve been at it every single day, and he’s been desperate to come to Minnesota,” said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. “We are delighted he’s signed. I believe he’s going to be a huge success in MLS, he’s scored goals against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain in finals, so he knows how to play in big moments. He’s got great movement, he’s sneaky fast. He always gets there. He’s got really good movement in the box, he’s a great finisher. Natural goal scorer. He’s going to get along with Rey – great players like playing with great players.”
Hunou joins Minnesota United after spending almost his entire professional career in the Stade Rennais system, where he’s scored 38 goals in seven seasons. He was signed by Rennais in 2012 and made 49 appearances with Rennais II between 2012 and 2017. Hunou made his Ligue 1 debut in 2012 with the Rennais first team. This season, Hunou has four goals in 577 minutes. Hunou was loaned out to Cleremont Foot 63, of the French second division, for the 2014–2016 seasons where he scored 11 goals in 47 game appearances. In his career, Hunou has made appearances in Champions League, Coupe de France, Coupe de Ligue and Europa League. Internationally, Hunou has played for the French youth national teams. He has appearances in the U18, U19 and U20 teams. Hunou is of Polish descent and is still eligible to play for the Poland National Team.
