On Saturday, October 28, the U13 and U14 boys teams traveled to Missouri to face their counterparts from St. Louis Scott Gallagher, then headed east to meet up with another St. Louis Scott Gallagher academy in Illinois. Then, on Sunday, November 5, the Loons visited the Minnesota Thunder Academy for a pair of matches.
MNUFC U13 vs. St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri U13
The home team opened the scoring early on a goal off a free kick by Ryley Gibbs in the 14th minute, but the Loons answered in the 19th minute when Abdulsalam Akinola found Cooper Ljewski slotting in behind the defense and finished bottom left corner to make it 1-1. MNUFC jumped out ahead in the 50th minute after Micah Burton struck a shot into the top left side, but SLSG would level it in the 57th minute on a strike by Owen Guffey that beat the ‘keeper high in the middle of the goal. Each team would have to settle for a point in the end.

This match didn’t see its first goal until the 24th minute, but once SLSG opened up its account, the goals came fast and furious. Johnny Leigh scored the first goal, then Owen Hardy followed up with a header off a cross in the 26th minute and Leigh added another before the half in the 35th minute. Down 3-0 headed into the second half, the Loons got one back in the 51st minute when Jacob Thao curled a free kick in to a waiting Cullen Connaker for a header. SLSG would put the match out of reach, though, in the 63rd minute when a goal from Payton Matthews made it 4-1.

Although the match started slow, it was the Loons who seized control in the 65th minute when Solomon Straub played a through ball in behind the defense and found Micah Burton waiting to knock the ball into the bottom left corner. The visitors held on for the 1-0 win.
MNUFC U14 vs. St. Louis Scott Gallagher Illinois U14
SLSG came on strong in this one, scoring in the 27th minute to make it 1-0 and then scoring twice in the second half in the 49th and 62nd minutes to put a 3-0 win over the Loons on ice.
MNUFC U13 vs. Minnesota Thunder Academy U13
MNUFC scored the only goal in this contest when Micah Burton cashed in a cross from Cooper Ljewski in the 23rd minute, giving the Loons a 1-0 win.
MNUFC U14 vs. Minnesota Thunder Academy U14
The U14s had a strong showing against their Minnesota Thunder Academy counterparts in the afternoon game on Sunday. Daniel Lainsbury opened the scoring for the Loons in the 12th minute with a bottom left corner strike off a through ball from Morgan Olson. Jacob Thao added a second goal in the 18th minute and Olson got one of his own in the 37th minute when he cleaned up a poor clearance. Thao completed his brace in the 53rd minute and gave MNUFC an authoritative 4-0 win on the road.
The U13 and U14 teams will travel to face the Indiana Fire Academy on Sunday, November 19 for their final matches of the fall phase before their training heads indoors for the winter. Check out the full schedule here.
