Minnesota United announced today the club has acquired the discovery rights for Honduran defensive-midfielder Kervin Arriaga from Austin FC for $50,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $50,000 in 2023 GAM. MNUFC has signed Arriaga to a two-year contract with a club option. Arriaga will join the Loons pending a physical and receipt of his Visa and ITC. Arriaga will occupy an international spot on Minnesota’s roster.
“We’ve been following Kervin [Arriaga] for maybe over a year and we’re really excited to get him here,” said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. “We think he’s got a lot of upside. Another really good piece for us to add to our midfield group and gives us that extra depth as well. Arriaga is another piece that will be contending within a deep squad for first team starting spots. We think there’s a lot more to come from him.”
The Honduran international joins Minnesota from C.D. Marathón of the Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional de Honduras, having played his entire professional career in his homeland. Arriaga has over 100 domestic appearances between Marathon and Club Atletico Platense, where he made his professional debut. The defensive-midfielder has scored 19 goals in league play and has five Concacaf League appearances, most recently in the 2021-2022 tournament where Arriaga played in four games and scored one goal. Internationally, Arriaga has developed into a consistent member of the Honduras National team, making eight World Cup Qualifier game appearances and starting in five.
