Minnesota United has been drawn to face Houston Dynamo on the road in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. The draw was held Thursday, June 13 as U.S. Soccer headquarters in Chicago. The game will be played at BBVA Stadium on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
The Loons advanced in the tournament by defeating Sporting Kansas City 4-1 at Allianz Field on June 12. Angelo Rodriguez got Minnesota on the board three minutes into the game, followed up by a goal from Ethan Finlay 45 seconds into the second half. Darwin Quintero scored a pair of goals to seal the team’s second-straight trip to the Round of 16.
MNUFC was eliminated by Houston in the Round of 16 in the 2018 edition of the tournament. The Dynamo went on to win the Open Cup that year, earning a spot in the 2019 Concacaf Champions League.
Minnesota and Houston were placed in the Midwest Region and the winner of this game will host the winner of FC Dallas vs. New Mexico United in the Quarterfinal. The winner of the Quarterfinal will face the winner of the West Region, with hosting determined by a random draw.
