For the third time in the 2024 MLS season, Minnesota United’s very own Robin Lod has earned a spot on the Team of the Matchday. Lod has now appeared in TOTM 2, 10, and 15, and the way he’s playing, it feels like we’ll be adding a few more appearances before the season’s over.
Despite coming off the bench in the 56th minute on Saturday, Lod’s contributions against Portland were crucial and exceptional. The Finnish midfielder provided the creative spark in the middle of the pitch that the Loons had been missing, making the attack far more dynamic and connecting the field with his next-level vision. His equalizing goal in the 65th minute was the first example of his quality, while his hockey assist on the game-winner showcased his ability to pull the strings and take over a game.
Anyone who’s watched MNUFC this season won’t be surprised to see Lod’s continued success. With four goals and nine assists in 781 minutes, he’s averaging a goal contribution every 60 minutes. His goal this weekend made him the club’s all-time leading goal scorer in all competitions—breaking his tie with Darwin Quintero and Emanuel Reynoso—and given his form, he seems ready to extend his tally.
Take a bow, Robin; it's about time you got your flowers. We’ve always known what a special player you are around here. Now, it seems the whole league is finally taking notice.
