MNUFC has two representatives on the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi this week. Following Minnesota’s 1-0 clean sheet win over the heretofore unbeaten and league-leading Seattle Sounders, Head Coach Adrian Heath slots into the manager’s role while midfielder Robin Lod is on the bench.
Heath collected his 50th win with MNUFC on Sunday afternoon as his team kept the Sounders from getting comfortable in the first half. In the second half, he brought on winger Niko Hansen for forward Adrien Hunou, moving Lod from his spot on the right wing to the false 9 position he played down the stretch last season. In the 80th minute, Hansen delivered the cross that found Lod on the far post for the game-winning goal.
Like the rest of the front four, Lod’s greatest contribution early came defensively as the Loons consistently executed a high press that harassed the Sounders and forced turnovers. Late on, his shift to the forward position paid the aforementioned dividends and he showed off his attacking chops as he peeled off the shoulder of Seattle’s Xavier Arreaga while staying onside to deliver the timely strike.
