Franco Fragapane earned himself a spot in the Starting XI while Bakaye Dibassy and Emanuel Reynoso featured on the bench alongside Head Coach Adrian Heath for the Week 34 MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi following the team’s 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City.
Franco Fragapane was the Loons’ savior this week. In the 20th minute, Emanuel Reynoso crossed a ball to the middle, where Adrien Honou got a foot on it, and sent the ball floating towards the second post where Robin Lod was. Lod then tried to take a shot, but an SKC defender blocked it, sending the ball towards Fragapane, who sent it to the back of the net and leveled the game. In addition to his goal contribution, Fragapane notched a 90.2% passing rate.
Minnesota’s shining star, Reynoso, suffered a total of three fouls, including one in the 39th minute in the box that resulted in a penalty. The Argentine stood up to take the penalty and scored a cheeky panenka against goalkeeper Tim Melia to give the Loons their 2-1 victory.
Dibassy was a key defender this week for Minnesota. The Frenchman averaged a 91.7% passing rate, the second highest in the team. In addition, he won 75% of his duels. Dibassy made sure SKC was shut down and unable to get past him or his teammates.
Adrian Heath earned himself Coach of the Week as he led the Loons to a 2-1 victory over the top seeded Sporting. In a crucial must-win game, Heath made sure the team knew what they had to do and executed it on the field.
