MNUFC will kick off its fifth season in Major League Soccer where the club’s 2020 season ended, at Seattle Sounders. The game will be nationally broadcast on Friday, April 16 at 8:30 p.m. CT on FS1. The following week, the Loons return to Saint Paul for the home opener at Allianz Field, facing off against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
“It will certainly bring back some memories and a lot of emotions from last year,” said Minnesota United Head Coach Adrian Heath on going to Seattle for the season opener. “But going back we know how hard we worked to get to get to where we were last year and that has to be the reflection, the work we put in during the year and what it helped us achieve. Going to Seattle you always get up for that game. It’ll be nice to start the campaign where we ended and begin our work right away.”
MNUFC Defender Michael Boxall on season opener in Seattle: “Especially with how the season ended, it’s good to put last year’s demon to the past and put a good performance out there. We’re good enough to beat them, just need to do it for 90 minutes. But they’ve always been one of the better teams in this league, at least until Ozzie [Alonso] came here, so we’ll be alright.”
Due to travel restrictions between the U.S. and Canada, the three Canadian clubs will begin the MLS regular season in the U.S. with each club hosting matches in a U.S. city:
- Montreal Impact: Miami, Fla.; Inter Miami CF Stadium
- Toronto FC: Orlando, Fla.; Exploria Stadium
- Vancouver Whitecaps FC: Sandy, Utah; Rio Tinto Stadium
Season Ticket Members
While Minnesota United hasn’t received an official go-ahead to welcome fans back into Allianz Field, it’s the club's hope that it will soon be allowed to host a limited number of fans at games while ensuring attendees maintain a safe social distance.
What does this mean for season ticket members?
- As always, season ticket members will have the first opportunity to secure tickets to home games, should they become available.
- If MNUFC does host games with limited capacities, season ticket members will have the option to apply a portion of the balance paid toward 2021 season ticket memberships to a ticket purchase.
- If and when games are played with limited capacities at Allianz Field, season ticket seating location cannot be guaranteed.
