Minnesota United has updated its roster following the conclusion of the 2019 Major League Soccer season.
The contracts for Osvaldo Alonso, Thomas Chacon, Jan Gregus, Brent Kallman, Robin Lod, Romain Metanire, Angelo Rodriguez, Dayne St. Clair and Mason Toye were already guaranteed for the 2020 season. Defenders Ike Opara and Michael Boxall were re-signed to multi-season contracts.
Hassani Dotson, Ethan Finlay, Chase Gasper, Marlon Hairston, Kevin Molino and Wyatt Omsberg had their options picked up by the club.
In addition to Rasmus Schuller, Collin Martin, Carter Manley, Wilfried Moimbe-Tahrat and Ally Hamis Ng’anzi, whose contracts were declined last month, MNUFC declined contract options on Lawrence Olum and Miguel Ibarra. Bobby Shuttleworth was out of contract without an option. Vito Mannone returned to Reading upon the completion of his loan with the Loons, who we are looking to resign.
Ibarra was one of two Loons from the NASL era with Minnesota United this season. The midfielder first signed with the Loons in 2012. During his earlier tenure with MNUFC (2012–15), he earned a pair of NASL Best XI appearances, a Golden Ball Award (MVP) and was the first U.S. lower-division player to be called up to the U.S. national team since 2005. Ibarra returned to Minnesota ahead of the 2017 inaugural MLS season. During his three seasons in MLS with MNUFC, Ibarra played almost 6,000 minutes (5,978) across 84 games, with 11 goals and 14 assists.
Shuttleworth joined Minnesota United ahead of the inaugural 2017 season in a trade with the New England Revolution. In 33 appearances (32 starts) for the Loons during the 2017 season, he managed 116 saves — second among MLS keepers on the year — five shutouts and two penalty stops. The goalkeeper was an MLS Team of the Week member in Week 8 after making three saves en route to the Loons’ first shutout in MLS, a 1-0 result over Colorado Rapids. He earned another spot in Week 10 with a second clean sheet and third win of the campaign, notching seven saves in a 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. In three seasons with MNUFC, Shuttleworth played 58 games across 5,838 minutes, with seven shutouts and 219 saves.
